The number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 grows every day throughout the U.S. and across the world. The numbers on this page are based on the latest statistics available, and are likely far lower than the actual number of cases because of limited testing. We know that at least 76 million people have contracted COVID-19 in the U.S. and more than 900,000 have died. Here's the situation as it stands:
The number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 each day peaked in January of 2021 and then decreased over the next several months as several vaccines became publicly available. The number of new cases began rising again in July.
