Traditional Festival of India--Diwali
Oct 20, 2022These days is the traditional festival----Diwali festival. The Diwali festival is also known as The Festival of Lights. This is a Hindu, Sikh, and Jain Festival that “casts out darkness with light and conquers evil with good."
The festival is associated with several Hindu myths, including a story about the Hindu god Krsna who destroyed the demons that destroyed heaven and earth and Naracasula, the god of hell.
Every household in India lights candles or oil lamps during this festival because they symbolize brightness, prosperity and happiness. As this festival is also regarded as the festival of the goddess of wealth --- Shilashmi, every household will clean up, light candles and oil lamps, and wait for the goddess to arrive. The festival is not only widely celebrated in India, it is even a national holiday in Fiji, Nepal and Trinidad.
During Diwali, all offices in India are closed, but the stock market is open for a special hour one day as a tribute to Rahimi. Hindus are in the habit of giving gifts on Diwali. A copper-plated candlestick carrying a candle with a metal skin was a popular gift. Candy plays an important role in Diwali. During the festival, friends and relatives will give each other colorful coconut candy called "Buffy" to express their blessings to each other. During Diwali, most Indian families wear new clothes and jewelry, visit family members and work colleagues, and give sweets, dried fruits and gifts.
Diwali has no formal ceremony and is similar to Christmas and New Year celebrations in other parts of the world. To honor the gods, the rooms were cleaned and painted. People wear new clothes and resolve to start a new life. Merchants stopped using their old account books and started using new ones. At dusk, every home and shop lights up and fireworks fill the sky. Friends and families get together and exchange gifts. Diwali culminates in bathing in a sacred river to cleanse the body and mind. Children must go to the river to wash away the dirt of their bodies and purify their minds. In addition to praying to the gods to keep the family healthy, people make a special pilgrimage to Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.
We wish every Indian visiting our website a happy Diwali Festival.
